The Strange High House in the Mist

This is a sketch for an H. P. Lovecraft story that ended up precursoring my senior thesis material. I had originally thought about reinterpreting Peter Pan when a teacher of mine shared with me his distaste of having to witness pixie dust in all of my artwork. I took the hint and decided to dig around a bit into my older pieces when I realized I've been neglecting my love of science fiction and horror. I wanted to post a bit of my process but I've realized I'm fairly poor at documenting just about anything I do. Another thing I've realized is that my process changes so very often that if I had accurately done so, my example would be slightly outdated by now. Either way, change is good, and I'm evolving at a rapid pace.

A friend of mine, Paul, modeled for the piece and I ended up using him as reference in two of my other paintings. He's long-limbed (always a plus) and i find him to be extremely photogenic for what i do.

I decided in the end to flip the structure of the painting so that it worked as a wraparound cover. Changes were made to the house because it lacked an element of quirkiness and needed a bit more structure. the mountain was also redesigned because I felt it was too divide, and it sort of chopped the image in half. It is the first and only spread I've done so far and it's been really exciting to see this one through.

AndrewRyanArt.com

Well it seems that after much extensive procrastination (and I must say it's been quite exhausting trying to put everything off until last minute) I have finally made the effort to finalize my website. I'd like to introduce you to the artwork and illustration of Andrew Ryan!

There is still much I'd like to improve and it will most certainly be an evolving process, however I can finally move on to bigger and better things for the time being...like content ;)

I encourage you to take some time to visit the little home i've built for myself here on the internet and let me know what you think.

apologies for such a lack of updates as of late, but with the end of school growing near i've been a busy busy bee.
